ON THE BALLOT: The ApeCoin DAO Is Voting On A Massive Governance Revamp Proposal. Find Out More:

The ApeCoin DAO is heading to the polls this week to vote on an Ape Improvement Proposal that would overhaul the current governance structure, bring 75% of the treasury on-chain, create an Executive Director and Audit Committee, and establish a new on-chain Ape Improvement Proposal Voting Process!

AIP-582 titled “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp,” is a process proposal written by the Ape Admin along with. Special Council Members BoredApeG, Hazel, Mo, and Waabam.

In the proposal, the Ape Admin outlines a vision for ApeCoin where 75% of the DAO’s treasury would reside on ApeChain. The Special Council’s role would shift from administrative reviewer to ambassador for $Ape, with salaries reduced from $125,000 USD to 36,000 $Ape. Additionally, a new 11-person Security Council and Data Availability Committee would be established. A new Executive Director role that would oversee ApeCoin and ApeChain growth would also be created, along with an Audit Committee made up of holders with 10 million+ $Ape. The proposal also revamps the AIP process, transforming it into an eight-phase, 27-37 day on-chain process that requires community support, temperature checks, KYC requirements, and contract negotiations before reaching a DAO-wide vote.

This AIP is comprised of six sections: 1 Chain Ownership, 2. DAO Proposals and Voting Procedures, 3. The Security Council, 4. Security Council Elections, 5. Data Availability Committee, and 6  Community Values.

Section One: Chain Ownership

The Ape Admin proposes “Chain ownership,” granting the ApeCoin DAO and the Security Council of the Ape Foundation the power to take administrative actions that change ApeChain’s core protocol and code or alter any of its core parameters.

Section Two: DAO Proposals and Voting Procedures

This section lays out a revamped 37-day AIP process that requires community support, temperature checks, KYC requirements, and contract negotiations before reaching a DAO-wide vote.

Section Three: The Security Council

A new 11-person Security Council will serve as a multi-sig wallet signers group, tasked with performing both Emergency and Non-Emergency Actions. Any actions taken by the Council will require the approval of at least seven of the 11 members.

Section Four: Security Council Elections

This section establishes the DAO’s first 11-person Security Council, filled with familiar faces from the ApeChain ecosystem. It also sets a July 15, 2025, election for the Security Council and establishes rules for the vote and a framework for removing members if necessary.

Section Five: Data Availability Committee

A Data Availability Committee will be formed, consisting of representatives from Yuga Labs, Offchain Labs, Animoca, Caldera, Magic Eden, LayerZero Labs, and Horizen Labs.

Section Six: Community Values

The proposal outlines four guiding community values, defining the why behind ApeCoin and ApeChain’s mission:

“The guiding values of the ApeCoin DAO and the Ape Foundation, ApeChain, technology, and community are:1. Boldness: We don’t shy away from the weird, the hard, or the new.2. Equality: One APE equals one APE. 3.Transparency: Processes and decisions are shared openly with the community. 4. Collective Responsibility: We leave everything better than we found it. 5. Persistence: Success is an ouroboros, not a straight line.”

To make this revamp a reality, the Ape Admin is asking the DAO to allocate $100,000 USD as a one-time payment, along with $275,000 USD annually to pay the 11 Security Council members $25,000 each.

The window to vote on AIP-582 is currently open and $Ape holders have until Wednesday, January 29th, to cast their coins and vote on this AIP.
