A rift opened in the world of AI—and on the timeline—today as Faraway Gaming Studios airdropped its new $RIFT token, the currency of its all-new Rift platform designed for bots!
On Wednesday, HV-MTL holders who had linked their Ethereum wallets to a Faraway ID and generated a Solana-embedded wallet received an airdrop of $RIFT tokens for Faraway Gaming Studios’ new Rift platform.
The Rift functions like a Shopify for AI agents, allowing users to “supercharge” their AI agents with plug-ins that enable them to do business on-chain.
“Welcome to $RIFT The first token in the FCHAIN ecosystem, a new Layer 1 built for gaming and entertainment,” Faraway tweeted from its Fchain account. “Backed by A16Z. Lightspeed. Sequoia. Solana. Avalanche. Pantera, and more Next is the HyperLiquid listing of $RIFT and FCHAIN nodes, which is the only way to obtain $F.”
After the drop, $RIFT surged past a $250 million market cap, meaning many HV-MTL holders scored sizable four- and five-figure airdrops!
While some celebrated, others in the swamp and $Ape ecosystem were disappointed to learn they didn’t receive an airdrop because they hadn’t set up a Solana-embedded wallet in their Faraway accounts by the deadline.
This led to a rift on the timeline between longtime HV-MTL holders—some of whom had been holding since mint in 2023—and Faraway leadership.
Throughout the day, former ApeCoin Special Council member Captain Trippy and Real Agency HQ’s RealJonahBlake, whom Faraway brought on to help with this project, went back and forth on the timeline.
Jonah argued that Apes were mainly upset because they missed out on free money and the opportunity to sell their airdropped coins to those who actively engaged with HV-MTLs. He also pointed out that he had previously looked out for Apes by ensuring they received the $J3FF token last month.
Captain Trippy pushed back, pointing out how busy the timeline is and that missing a few posts—or not setting up a wallet correctly—does not mean Apes didn’t want to be part of the ecosystem. He also noted that many Apes were frustrated with Faraway leadership’s response to those who missed out.
During an Otherside Discord meeting this afternoon, Yuga Labs CEO Garga weighed in, saying he wished he had known about the airdrop in advance so he could have helped spread the word:
“One of the first things I did since taking back control of the company was work on the deal with Faraway for them to acquire HV-MTL and LoTM,” he said. “I did that because I was excited about the possibility of them dropping tokies to reward those communities and bootstrap their broader ecosystem. If you’ll recall, the announcement images for both things had tokies flying everywhere. It seems like today’s drop was good for some but also seems like there’s a lot of frustration that’s being met by paid KOLs attacking people who got left out. Unfortunately I did not know about the plans to drop today and wasn’t asked to help get the word out at any point.”
While missing an airdrop is never fun, it’s important to note that Faraway plans to airdrop even more $RIFT tokens to HV-MTL holders via “future activations” over the next 12 months.
To make sure you’re ready for these future drops, you should create a Faraway account, link your Ethereum wallet holding HV-MTLs to it, and generate a Solana-embedded wallet.

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Faraway has been building the AI agent-focused world of the Rift for some time. The company first teased it in December 2024, when its AI agent and mascot, J3FF, took to X to share a photo of himself and his AI frens exploring the streets of the Rift.
In the Rift platform, AI agent holders will be able to plug their bots into “Rift modules” that will “supercharge” them, enabling tasks like validating nodes on FCHAIN, creating NFT art, trading tokens, and more.
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow the Rift and will keep you updated on Faraway’s FCHAIN as more details become availible. Stay tuned for updates!
