That’s one small step for Ape, one giant leap for Web3! Bored Ape Yacht Club member Vicki’s iconic Ape is literally on the moon after taking part in a space mission led by Web3 artist and author Sarah Hodsdon that aimed to bring art, culture, and proof of humanity to space!

When you get the chance to go to space, you take it! Over the last year, Hodsdon has been sending projects, NFTs, and art literally to the moon.

Recently she was invited to take part in another space mission and create a proof of human project that would connect physical objects to digital twins on Earth, called Lunar Lander Cards. One of these cards featured her friend Vicki’s Bored Ape, as well as her real-life ice cream store!

“I got another bite at the apple and sent a very different kind of cargo- one that would be a powerful usecase for IP, the rights of verified digital twins, and proof of human,” Hodsdon told the Gazette. “Vicki was included in my Lunar Lander Cards. Each one is sealed with and embedded with an NFC chip tied to a X/Twitter space Audio tour and any physical objects depicted. The digital twins of the actual cards were integrated into the LifeShip Cargo, which is welded to the frame of Firefly’s Lunar Lander which launched at 1/15/2025 at 1:11am on a Falcon 9. It’ll land on the Lunar Surface (Mare Crisium) around March 2 ish and it’ll stay there forever.”

“I’m in the freakin moon permanently,” Vicki said. “It feels surreal I thought it was coming back but it’s staying up there permanently!”
Hodsdon explained that she hopes having NFTs literally on the moon will inspire people on Earth to shoot for the stars.
“This project isn’t just about something cool on the lunar surface for vanity’s sake (although bragging rights are fun,),” she said. “It is about the protocols and patents that were created & established to tokenize real world assets tethered to Offworld digital twins, the fractionalized ownership of collaborative works, the new asset classes offworld entities & the Space economy will usher in. I’m hoping that in a small way, my work and the precedent that was will help future-dwellers enjoy the freedom of mobility parallel economies provide and enable ordinary folks the opportunity to DO extraordinary things that’ll change their stars.”
Looking ahead, Hodsdon will mint the full set of Lunar Lander Cards on ApeChain soon, featuring not only Vicki’s Ape and Mutant, but also familiar faces from the swamp and ApeChain ecosystem like Steve and Cap from Coffee with Captain, and some Spunkys from the AIOW team!

“I’m minting the collection pics to ApeChain as a digital notary (the REAL use case of blockchain when it was invented ),” Hodsdon said. “I’ve never made any NFTs in the DeGen sense lol not yet.”
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Hodsdon and let you know when you can mint her ApeChain collection. Stay tuned for updates!
