ApeChain explorers are catching gold rush fever as they grab their pickaxes and head on-chain this evening—because there’s gold in those hashes!
A modern-day gold rush is taking place on ApeChain as Not a Punks Cult and Goobaloo open up their Proof of Work Gold Mine, filled with 21 million Gold Ore NFTs, along with other artifacts, relics, and high-value NFTs waiting to be discovered in these metaphorical mountains! And anyone with a Pickaxe NFT is invited to ape in!

Since yesterday’s mint and today’s mine opening, Pickaxe NFT holders have been busy prospecting, uncovering 3,779 Gold Ore so far!

Like real-life gold nuggets, these Gold Ore NFTs are finite, can be used to craft rare and valuable items, and can only be found through hard work. Just as old-school prospectors had to chisel away in hopes of striking it rich, $Apes must head into the mine and search for a valid Gold Hash—which can only be discovered through brute-force computational guesswork!
“it’s deterministically random, that’s almost an oxymoron, but it works,” Uncle Mac told the Gazette. “You could click the button and boom find gold. Which would be very valuable gold – imagine your miner guy walks in, turns left and finds a massive gold vein, he mines it and then he goes home for the day, job done. A different guy goes in, he turns right and he spends 3 hours getting lost and only finds a tiny little nugget.”

“It’s technically bitcoin but on ApeChain,” Uncle Mac continued. “It’s a good job we got that “nfts aren’t securities ruling, because we might have accidentally created an nft with a stable store of value.”
If you’re reading this and starting to feel gold fever, then head over to Magic Eden and pick up a Pickaxe here: https://magiceden.us/collections/apechain/picks-13

Then, you can ape into the mines and start digging for gold here: https://www.themine.io/

Looking ahead, Uncle Mac and the Not a Punks Cult and Goobaloo teams have big plans for the mines. They hope to invite more ApeChain NFT projects to dig with them, open side mines, and introduce crafting in the future.
“This project inspired by my entire time in web3,” Uncle Mac said. “All the threads, ideas, innovations, bits of random knowledge and then blended together with an unhealthy dose of caffiene, adhd and outside of the box thinking.”
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Uncle Mac and the mines and keep you posted on this ApeChain gold rush! Stay tuned for updates!
